FlashLight is a secreted luciferase, isolated from a marine copepod, which can be used for intact cell analysis applications. It combines the advantage of a live cell assay with the sensitivity of an enzyme based system. All the analysis can be done in "one-step" by detecting the activity of the secreted reporter enzyme in the supernatant of transfected cells without the need for cell lysis, as required by most other luciferase and other non-secreted enzyme based reporter assays.
FlashLight secreted Luciferase can be used in conjunction with alternate reporter systems such as firefly luciferase to construct a dual reporter system for monitoring physiological responses to pharmacological challenge and also simultaneously monitor parameters such as cell viability.
