Axxam Appoints Tod Flak as Head of Laboratory Informatics and Automation

Dr. Tod Flak has been appointed as Head of Laboratory Informatics and Automation.
Dr. Flak was previously with Genesoft, Inc., a small biopharmaceutical company based in San Francisco, CA, USA. There he functioned in a similar role, with responsibilities that included development of robotic automation for chemical synthesis and biological assays; development of application software to support the laboratory research; and development and administration of databases for laboratory information management and chemical registration. Prior to that position, Dr. Flak worked at several other biotechnology companies as well as at the genome sequencing facility at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The educational background of Dr. Flak includes a B.S. degree in the field of Electrical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio; and a Ph.D. in Molecular Microbiology from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, both in the USA.
At Axxam, he will be focusing on information systems to support the company's research and development activities, as well as the continued development of automation for laboratory processes and chemical screening.

Axxam Appoints Gyorgy Simon as Head, Bioinformatics

Mr. Gyorgy Simon has been appointed as Head, Bioinformatics. Mr. Simon was previously with FIMO, FIRC Institute of Molecular Oncology, as Head of Informatics Services based in Milan, Italy. There he was responsible for establishing and directing the general purpose and bioinformatics computer systems as well as for the development of application software of research assistance. Prior to that position, Mr. Simon worked at other academic institutions, as the Tigem (Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine) and ICGB at Trieste, applying biotechnology and bioinformatics as responsible for the information technology.
Mr. Simon's education includes a B.Sc. in Computer Systems Organization, (SZAMALK - Computer Application and Training Center) and an M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering with specialization in Biological Engineering (Technical University) both obtained at Budapest, Hungary.
At Axxam, he will be focusing on the bioinformatics systems to support the company's research activities, as well as for the development of project-oriented software components.
